Manurewa East School Working Bee
On Saturday 1st October, Oke undertook its most ambitious school garden build to date, but building not one but two school gardens in just one day. The Oke Crew joined the Manurewa East school community, along with amazing volunteers from Milford Foundation, the local police and Wiri Licencing Trust to build these gardens in the pouring rain. This was school garden #26th and it had to be one of the wettest and muddiest of builds. A total of 22 Birdies Garden raised beds installed (these had been built prior to the working bee by the kids at Manurewa East), 11m of Daltons garden mix was tipped into the beds which had already been half filled with logs, twigs, etc that the volunteers had collected from around the school. Oh and a 6m taro garden path was built, shifting 3m of scoria stone in the process. A Morrifield tunnel house was installed. Lastly, 10 feijoa trees and 20 native trees were planted around the gardens, donated by Kings Plant Barn and Beaumont Nurseries. And of course our ever trusty Garys Garden Sheds installed one of their epic sheds. This entire build was funded by Wiri Licensing Trust, thank you!
