Springdale School Working Bee

Springdale School Working Bee

Working Bee #75 at Springdale School… and yeah, that one lands a bit. Backed by Lotto NZ and powered by a proper mix of students, staff, whānau, plus the Daltons and Fonterra crews, this was one of those “righto, let’s crack on” days. Springdale already had a strong setup, so this wasn’t about starting over. It was about levelling it up, backing what was there, and turning a good space into something seriously useful.

And get stuck in they did. New Birdies raised beds went in, loaded with Daltons garden mix, old beds were brought back from the brink, a Morrifield tunnel house went up, and a Gary’s Garden Shed was dropped in and built. Then more fruit trees added to an orchard that’s already doing the business. Bit by bit, the space shifted… more structure, more growing, more opportunity for kids to actually get amongst it instead of just talking about it.

That’s the magic of these days. Not the stuff we build, but the people who show up. Daltons and Fonterra didn’t just send gear, they rolled up their sleeves. The school community brought the heart. And by the end, tired arms, muddy boots, and that quiet nod of “yeah, that’s better.” Seventy five working bees in, and it still works because it’s real.
