Matipo Primary School Working Bee

What a way to kick off the week! Our 56th working bee landed us in the sunny West at Matipo Primary School, and wow – what a buzz. From the moment we arrived, the energy was high and the community vibes were even higher.

The tamariki were curious, the teachers were legends, and the volunteers? Absolute stars. A massive shout-out to the Matipo whānau for turning up with tools, gloves, and big smiles. We also had the awesome crew from Starbucks NZ getting stuck in – proving that their skills go far beyond flat whites and frappes!

Thanks to the generous support of COMET and the Asmuss Foundation, we were able to bring this outdoor classroom to life. Raised garden beds, shelves, tunnel house were all built, and a place where kids can get their hands dirty, connect with nature, and learn in a whole new way – all in a single day. Magic stuff.

Every spade in the dirt, every barrow of mulch, every sausage sizzled – it all added up to something really special.

To everyone who gave up their Tuesday to be part of this, thank you. You’ve helped grow more than just a garden – you’ve helped grow a space for learning, wellbeing, and community connection.

Here’s to the next one! Let’s keep building futures, one working bee at a time.
