Papatoetoe North Working Bee
In May 2021, Oke was approached by Papatoetoe North School to help get their school garden growing. A working bee was planned for September 2021 but then Auckland was hit by a Level 4 lockdown, so the working bee had to be postponed. The working bee was rescheduled for March 2022 and it was great to finally get this garden built. For the first time, Oke built and installed Birdies Raised Beds and implemented the hugelkultur method of filling the beds (the bottom half of the beds are filled with logs, branches, leaves, etc., and then Daltons garden mix on top). A total of fifteen raised beds were installed, along with the tunnel house, tool shed and a dozen fruit trees were planted. This was school garden #21 and we look forward to seeing it grow. This garden was funded by the Newmans Own Foundation.
